In The Rain

In The Rain

Theres an old man sitting on a bench. As everyone passes
they notice he's sitting in the rain, then they see his face
troubled with pain.Everyone wonders, what must be wrong,
for the need on his face is so very strong. As the day goes
by and the rain gets stronger, this old man knows he cares
no longer. The tears begin to fall, as he looks back in time.
He remembers the days, his life was well and fine.Suddenly
he feels, a hand upon his shoulder, he looks up at a man,
who is so much older. He starts to talk to the sad old man,
and says dear son take my hand. The old man hesitates,
but only for a moment, as he looks at a face with love
written upon it.As they join their hands, and look at each
other. All the man hears, is I'll take your trouble. All your
life you've struggled in vain, your heart and mind are filled
with pain.If you'll repent unto me, trust me as your savior.
My dear child, I'll answer your prayer.Your troubles will
fade,no doulbts will remain. It's all possible within my name.

One can feel your heart wanting to reach out to that man in the rain ! Your imagary + clarity here, in this poem, are really excellent. (I knew a man that fits your story.) Thank you for sharing.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
