    Insomnia

    I lay awake.
My thoughts race like a frightened heart,
    But even faster.
I watch as the movie plays, and think,
    how complicated the human mind.
    How interesting and how bold.
Just watching as the ideas and emotions unfold.
Ideas that once spilled onto paper,
now reach from the screen and I am no longer
In my own little world, but somewhere in between,
the things that are and what I know can be.
Can I find the glue that can hold it all
    together?

Can I weave those so fine threads from which I hang,
Into a canvas I can create a masterpiece on?
Like a widow on her web I seek the balance that won’t let me fall.
The pictures flash like so many fragments of the future and the past.
    I realize I havn’t heard a word they’ve said, to busy listening
to the echoes in my head.
    Thoughts, fears, fantasies, ideas,
swimming into infinity, again I bleed.
    I’m seeking.
Forever walking through the hallways of my mind.
Opening doors and windows, cleaning up the dust.
Trying to put it together, in the best way.
So it can make sense to others,
    But first to me.

    Life is truly a journey.
I paste together these things I find,
in the cluttered but strangely organized boxes and files inside my mind.
Like scrap booking or making a picture collage,
    I put it all together.
I put the words on paper and I look at it when I’m through
    Maybe someone, somewhere will relate.
    Maybe you.

the plight of creativity... the magic is in the organization of thoughts and the illustrative words mean alot! Great poem!

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
