Is freedom an illusion?

Is freedom an illusion?

Is freedom an illusion, a trial from within?

A challenge to our own self-constraint?

There are bindings and the masks,

The shrouds we all wear, who am I?

The bite and the venom, sharp discipline,

Black kohl, emerald shade, red paint,

Blue cameo, shock heels, shattered farce.

Why hide? Why bow? Why reply?

Interesting. I once wondered if too much freedom led to another prison? I personally think there is balance to everything, even freedom. Everything has a -too much- and -not enough- so to speak. Just my rambling tho. Intriguing write. I like writes that question life like this. It is like it is our right to ask of such things. It reminds me of how much I just want to be me. Enjoyed the journey.

Thank you once again for your insightful comments! Yes the aim of the poem was to try to put across the common idea 'just because I can do something, it does not always mean I should'. It ended up developing into an exploration of life and whether the reason you challenged your own judgement was out of a need to challenge yourself.

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
