Island Full of Us

Island Full of Us

Different places, many faces,

We have created too many excuses

Not to be the same.

If we were put on an island,

No media to interfere,

No religion, no barriers,

We would all be the same.

Born as one, nature nurturer,

Kindness, love, no war.

But somehow we end up in a hole

Racist, prejudice, rooted to the core.

In this world full of people,

We find excuses to make it bad

To be different.

So if we were raised on an island,

Nobody to tell us of this hate,

This need to differentiate.

Would badness seep into our pores,

Biased opinions of the people

In this world?

What would we become,

On this Island Full of Us?

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
