It hurts me....

Poem Commentary

The things in life that just break my heart.

It hurts me....

It hurts me when I see pain in your eyes.

It hurts me when I make you cry.

It breaks my heart when I walk by a woman.

And she shrinks away, intimidated by my size.

Because I am an old teddy bear.

With a great big open heart.

It hurts me.

Because it's crisscrossed with deep scars.

It hurts me when a mother kills a child.

And I feel a rage, unchecked and wild.

It hurts me to the depths of my old soul.

That my father neglects me.

And doesn't care who I've become.

Well it is his loss. And he will answer for it.

To God. And that hurts me too.

Dad, I feel so sorry for you.

But I sat on the front porch last night for two hours.

Conversing with my oldest son.

Taking time to know his heart.

Something you have never done.

That hurts me.

It hurts me when I see violence for no reason.

Our streets full of hate and racism.

It breaks my heart.

That families no longer spend time together.

Eating meals apart in separate rooms.

It hurts me that we have to lock our homes.

It hurts me to know I will always be alone.

It hurts me when people die.

It disappoints me when people lie.

It saddens me when friends betray.

It killed me deep inside when you turned

and walked away.

It tore me up inside when I betrayed you.

It hurt me, when I hurt you.

It made me feel so small every time.

I lashed out at my child.

It hurts me to be selfish.

Humanity must be aware of this.

We are made in his image.

What a thought.

What have we wrought?

It hurts me …...

It hurts me..........

We enter this world completely and totally alone.

And sadly no matter who is in the room

when you die. You will leave that way too.

Be careful of how you treat one another.

In between.

For all will repay and be judged one day.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
