IT JUST ME

Poem Commentary

One of my nicknames is "LI" and I use it as a signature for my poetry.

Suffering with depression I have doubts about myself and who I am.  I created this poem as inspiration.  It's okay to look at myself in the mirror and not be discourage because my creator is why I exist and if I exist then I must FIND PURPOSE.

It's okay if you don't love me but it is not okay to not love yourself.
Take out the LI and read it again.

IT JUST ME

Look at me, Li

Basing in my uniqueness

Strutting a smile of gratification and delight

because I am splendor

Created in God’s image of distinctness

I breathe in life's reality

Convinced that what is, is meant to be

what was is past

I control nothing but my own being

and it's my reaction that can bring devastation to my tomorrows

Love Li

I am the explanation of my existence

I bare no shame

For it’s me in the reflection

I cannot hide

My deceit will be revealed

So I confess and move on

head held high

sure of my direction

I live serenely

My past is my testimony for the future

My wisdom is the guidelines

towards correcting my imperfections

I have purpose

Love Li as you see me

My beauty

My skin

My eyes

I am content

I am original

So look at me and look at yourself

Although change can be unattainable

Change in me is profitable

LOVE YOU because I LOVE LI

This is beautiful. Your poetry speaks to me. This is a great message for those fighting self esteem issues.

For sure because this and Be Blessed was met to do just that and I hope that it did for you and does for others... Thanks for your comment...

This is beautiful, I wish I could say I am content with my image. I have goals and they keep me going it seems. But really all of it is vanity.

Nothing that you have in life that makes you content will be in vain. You have to be content with yourself or you will reveal to everyone your discontentment. God has made us in all our individuality and there is no perfect model. I am work in progress. Thank you for your comment and Happy Holiday.

We have all been created with our beautifully unique talents and abilities and need to be proud of that and use our talents to teach others how to shine God's love into a confused and hurting world. You have written a beautifully inspiring poem.Keep on shining like the beautiful person that you are my friend.

excellent verse. the good thing about a mirror is that it is only a reflection of you; inasmuch, you can always walk away, and change your reflection as you seek to change your mind, heart, and life. i felt assurance, confidence, and self esteem in your words; but i also heard another person deep from within... trying to escape. i love your work; very potent, somewhat arrogant, yet soothing, refreshing and mostly... your work delivers a subtle message to its readers. continue your journey..... thejazzpoet

ARROGANT? Please explain. Is this for this one poem or in general.

Yes, there were two sides of me battling, the side that believed what people said and absorbed it and the one that heard what the people said and ignored it. It has taken me too much time to choose a side but now the people listen to me. I had to learn who I am before I could be who I am. I know I have no control over anything except me and so I stay in control. My journey started so long ago, if only I knew I was traveling.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
