Poem Commentary

RIPPED FROM THE PAGES OF MY JOURNAL::: This piece is dedicated to a chat room friend named "JustStella". I hope your man don't get mad at me(wink).

Just "STELLAAAA!"

I know a chick named Stella,

I wanna say I like her but I’m afraid to tella

But I do like to shout her name

To shout any others’ wouldn’t feel the same

Whenever I say her name my voice tends to go higher

I’m like Brando in the movie called “A streetcar named Desire”

Somewhat of a beggar fella

At the bottom of a staircase Shoutin’ “Hey Stellaaaa!”

How I love that Stella name le'me count the ways

One, how she got her groove back from young man’s sway

Two, how she is immortalized in a Broadway play

Three, how I met a Stella in a chat room as we chatted the night away

Stellaaaa! Yep, I love the way that sound

Just sayin’ her name lift me up when I’m down

Whenever I say Stellaaaa!

I wanna sing it Acapella

Stellaaaaa!,

As in the words of Billy Dee, Chow-bella

Were it not for the fact that I know something of the author's history I might not have fully appreciated this work. In it's bearing it may seem trite but in truth it is masterful. It is much like a twisting journey for the reader; making use of the familiar phrases that put together create an atmosphere that is at once able to register and put the life of Stella beautifully. One cannot doubt the effect Stella has had on the author and is now having on we the reader. Well said, well said indeed.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
