Poem Commentary

A tale of an average family tree.

Kings, Poets, and Minstrels

Look in the past ages at those ancestors who set this path for you.
Follow their unbroken trail back to the Sire whom began this faithful dream.
Can you see him, can you feel his blood surging in your veins.
What of your fathers, father a carrier of mail and his father the Professor of our spoken word.

Begun on a farm in Ohio, brought forth from this meager earth.
Can you see his brother survivor of Bull Run now mended and marching to doom at Lynchburg Va.
The sister child giving her precious essence to bring Edgar Allen Poe screaming into the world.
Can you feel them, these graceful wanderings that lead to you.

What of your fathers, mother she that taught so many things to her pupils.
Did they notice the regal way she held her line, marching back to Eadred King of England.
The very spirit that embedded a poets heart in you, drummed the language of Kings into your mind.
There her sister bringing Rich minstrels from "Behind Closed Doors" changing country's face.

Can you see them, can you feel them, the family you hold dear.
Does your poet heart feel the the blood of Kings, Poets and Minstrels coursing in your soul.
Show the pride they have planted in the path you walk upon.
You child of theirs have been given a precious gift from those who toiled in your creation.
You have those Kings, Poets, and Minstrels living in these memories you hold next to your heart.................

Beautifully expressed. The flow was a big hard, but other than that it was nicely written. Good job.

I loved reading this. I could almost hear you reading it to me aloud. I don't think the word 'whom' should have been used there, but other than that, it was wonderful!

Very nice. Conjures many thoughts. I like the premise. Flows well. I have often thought about my family lineage but have never explored it. I probably should. Nice write. Thanks for sharing... Kevin

Its a wonderful thing to find gratness in the blood that flows through your viens......

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.

Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) American poet.
