Poem Commentary

I wrote this after I graduated high school. Was just thinking about my country.

Land Of The Free

Sometimes I sit and wonder, what type of stress could you be under,

To take a man from his land and off into the wild blue yonder.

I ponder upon the facts of life but the tracks of strife keep showing,

Right through the red white and blue, we get taller but still aren't growing.

Our perceptions are infantile all the while because people won't speak on the truth.

They try to shelter the youth and protect their "virgin" ears but what they are taking out of the "pudding" is the "proof".

With no "proof in the pudding" there's just lies and conjecture, innuendo and glamorized fables.

What I propose is that he or she who knows, comes and put some real food on my table.

I'm not able to understand the wrongs of the past, if the last thing you want is to speak of it.

If ignorance needs a face, it has mine to embrace and if responsibility has a scent then you reek of it!

For you possess a way, to avoid yesterday and not continue in this rerun.

So sit down next to me, by the old oak tree and tell me how America was won!

How the natives were swindled, encamped and then slaughtered and now live on miniscule reservations.

They once bespeckled this "Grandest" of lands, yet in my school had no representation.

I've never once seen a Native American child in all of the days of my life.

I never have witnessed a Native American man embrace his Native American wife.

That's a serious statement about the state of this union and it speaks upon the leaders of old,

But the biggest tragedy is, besides a few books and movies the TRUTH is basically untold.

Speak of how your forefathers used to own slaves but remind people that you don't agree with them.

It wasn't your choice who your forefathers were, your foremothers just happened to be with them!

People think because of your race you must be just like them, as if one race is synonymous with assininity.

Yet we all know, thats not the way things go and that assininity has no affinity.

That's just a couple of the tales of the different races that make up this great "melting pot".

Thats part of the problem, the pot itself is melting, the ingredients however are not.

All of the ingredients you've put into the pot, now, in different areas you've got them,

While some of the items rise to the top, alot of it falls to the bottom.

So all I ask is an occasional stir or some slight agitation if you will.

To make the ingredients mix and mingle and keep time from standing still.

Greetings fellow intellectual. Greetings to a person who read between the lines and paid attention in class. People push uncomfortable subjects to the back of their mind because they don't want to be bothered by the woes and tragedies of others. They blame them for their own suffering and persist in their ignorance. Those people are a disease to humanity. Please continue to confront ignorance.

Thank you very much! The only way we learn from mistakes is to confront and discuss them, ignoring them does not make them go away.

Oh and by the way, I won't be upset if you read more of them. (Smile) Some are a little risque but most are tame, all are passable as poetry! LOL!

great write makes one stop and think about how far do we have to sink as a nation before we figure it out....EVERYTHING IN OUR SOCIETY IS FAILING.......It very well could be the beginning of the end of this world as we know it........

Poetry is what gets lost in translation.
