    LAST

    LAST
When the last factory is silent
    When the last bird
    Has fallen from the sky
    When the last deer
Has been killed in the woods
When the last tree has fallen
    In the barren land
If we are the last human
    To breathe the polluted air
We will feel the angels’ tears
    And the voice of God
    Will echo as our eyes
    Close one last time
    "It might have been."

You know, over the years I have heard a lot about smog, and climate change and what not. But think about it...anywhere you go do you see a difference in the climate? Do you see smog? I just wonder how much of what we hear is just a ruse to get our money to put in a save the planet fund so that it can go into someones pocket. I just wonder...is that okay? And by the way, your poem was lovely.

As a retired trace metal chemist, I can tell you from having run a lot of tests on environmental water samples of varied origins, that the environment is in much better shape than the naysayers would have us believe. If you would like to discuss this more, write me at drjekyll@hazleton .net.Again I tried to write something that seemingly supports something I am not convinced of.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
