    Poem Commentary

What can I say - I make this stuff up.

    Last Moments

Carry me out into the yard
    Carry me  one last time
Set me down between the trees
    Over there, by Valentine

    We were married sixty years
But it never seemed that much
Yes, let me rest right here
So's I can be in touch

I met her in the Second Grade
Her folks moved here that year
    We always knew we'd marry
    We never had a fear

After then I worked for dad
    Val went away to school
    She came back a teacher
    And married this workin' fool

But we loved each other every day
    Eventually came you boys
Each time she took a year off
Then went back to all the noise

The years took kindly to that gal
Dark haired right to the end
Cancer took her far too soon
But she was my loving friend

So now my time has come too
But I want you both to know
I've had a full and loving life
It's OK to let me go

    Whatever's out there - it's alright
No thinkin' of what might have been
I've loved my Val and you boys too
    I'm sure we'll meet again

So go back in the house now
And let me sit a spell
I'm tired - so very tired
It's time to be with Val

Thank you Dear One - Poetry is all about writing what others can feel, isn't it?

Wow! This is old school. Quite a solid piece here. I could see the pictures in my head as I read this.

Well, you certainly can spin a yarn. I loved this. I think you should win the contest, but some cryptic piece of nonsense will probably win.

Ok, I admit it, I totally cried thinking about that sweet old man and his faithful wife. This is so unbearably sweet and sad. Great job :)

    Feeling - that's what it's all about, isn't it? Thank you K

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
