leaving sodom and gomorrah

hurry up now, we must go,
the messengers god sent
told me this was so.
they were here but i know
not where they went.
this message to me
they did give,
to take my family
from this place to live.
"god will destroy this place," they said,
"with fire and brimstone
and all who remain will be dead."
so come now, we must be gone
and don't look back or you'll pay
for that sin with your life.
follow me if you want to see a new day.
come, both daughters and wife,
don't stop until the air is clear,
don't stop until we’re far away from here.

daughters: “what shall we do?
a pillar of salt our mother became
for looking back at the city in flames.”

lot: “save her! save her!
we’ll use her for our seasoning needs.
save her! save her! by all reasoning please.”

daughters: “but that’s our mother
                 of whom you speak
punished for taking one last peek.”

lot: “yes that is so
and this thing I do regret
but your mother, you will know
is always there when our table is set.”

Whiskers commented on leaving sodom and gomorrah

I have to say that as a Christian I take the scriptures very seriously because they show how to be Born Again spiritually into Gods family. That being said, this was one seriously funny take on a serious subject. You know that speaking of Christians, the Bible says in Matthew chapter 5 verse 13: "Ye are the salt of the earth..." Of course if she was truly a "seasoned" worshipper then she wouldn't have ended up as the first Spice Girl. My hat off to you for a very humerous piece my friend. Blessings, Whiskers.

This is one of my attempts at humor poetry...glad you like it...

To have great poets there must be great audiences too.
