Let Me Show You

Let Me Show You

Let me show you a hard time

when you can't find a dime.

You think your life sucks-

look around you and find,

good homeless people

struggling hard to survive.

Lost their job at the mill,

now their trying to decide.

Divide up, what little they have,

for their love ones to give.

And explain to them why-

and to learn how to live.

So I took my young son

to the foodbank dowtown,

where there's lots of poor

souls outside hunkering down.

In the cold and the muck,

waiting for the food truck.

Hoping just to receive

some bread and some meat.

A few packages of rice and

maybe some beans.

When my young son saw this,

he realized just what it means.

The look on their faces,

tells a story that sparks,

wells of watery tears

invokes pain in the heart.

Just to reach out and touch

the hand of a wanting soul,

needing love and nourishment

one who's story needs to be told.

As we left, my son's hand,

even tighter I would hold.

The experience fresh

in our eyes and our souls.

Certainly a humbling experience for you and your son, yet the food pantries run out and the homeless shelters overflow. The humble and ashamed will not accept help and often opt for the street. An eye opener to read. ginga

I was trying to reach out to my son and in that experience the true gift was the poem that came to me and the understanding of how blessed we truly are and that humility and conviction to reach out to others in need. The compassion and acceptance that the world needs to gravitate towards to build a better world. Thanks. ;-)

A fine tribute to our need to be softenend and to compassion for those who Really Hurt. I like the employment of participation of your child in the poem and the result of empathy. God bless you!

Mars, I have been preoccupied with randomly expressing the harsh realities and experiencing them with my child , so that He does'nt become hardened and aloof to these unfortunate situations. Hopefully, his heart will always be open as a result.
