Life Before You

Life Before You

While you once lie in wait

Warm and safe within the womb

How I dreamt and envisioned

The color of your now dark, wide eyes

The contour of your tiny nose and mouth

Such delicate features, so precious still…

Wonderment and joy is your constant gift

Your love unconditional and pure

Your understanding of life encompassing

Make you wise beyond your six years.

Angels must have whispered life’s secrets

Though you keep them locked within your heart

Releasing them in perfect synchrony…

He must have known when I needed you most.

Life without you would engulf me

In wretched agonizing pain…

Something I can not fathom, however

How was life before you?

To ponder this is unimaginable…

For many of those moments

Have been erased from my capsule of time

Those are all but distant dreams

Caught in a web of the surreal.

Awwww....this is rather sweet of you to write this for the little one. They really do bring smiles to faces and joy to otherwise dreary situations don't they? I think it is great that you took the time out to show appreciation for the child...as it is often practiced the other way around. And might I add...very well written. May the Kudos be with you. Cheers!!!

Bri, she will forever treasure this outpouring of unbridled love you've written, relating to her how unimportant your life was before. It seems this great work was in your heart, mind, soul to write the day she was born. I love it!

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
