Light of blindness

Light of blindness

Darkness overcame the day
then I could not see
Morning came, the birds flew,
the darkness went away

The brightness was warming
Not a cloud in the sky
My eyes were filled with brightness
Even with darkness in my heart and mind

This bright light blinded
my eye's
It was the light of blindness
Which came from high in the skies

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
