Little Girl
She kissed her mama bye
As she set out for the world.
She said, "No matter what,
I'll always be your little girl."
She moved out far away
To a place that no one knew.
Pretty soon, times got rough
And she didn't know what to do.
She started going downhill
Way too hard & fast.
Little girl, you'd better straighten up
Or you're gonna finish last.
It started out real simple
But got worse everyday.
She thought the drugs would stop the pain
But it didn't go away.
She said it was under control.
She told everyone she's fine.
Yet she's selling her body on the street
Just to get high one more time.
It turned into a habit.
A constant, craving need.
She'd do anything you offered
For crack, heroin, or speed.
She must have lost her mind that night.
She must have got too high.
Little girl, it's gone too far.
You made your mama cry.
The cop said, "One more overdose,"
In the alley where she was found.
And everyone was silent
When they put her in the ground.
A tear rolled down her mama's cheek
As she fell down to her knees.
"Why can't my baby still be alive?
Would someone tell me, please?"
Every night she kneels to pray
With her broken heart, in an unfair world
And it still hurts everytime she says,
"God take care of my little girl."
