    Locked Beside Me

I can't seem to pass through this door...
There appears to be no more floor.

    I struggle.
    I falter.
    I fall to the ground
    but
    I can't get up.

    I slip.
    I fight.
    I have to be strong.
    I have to go on...
    I have to believe.
    I must succeed.

I have to forage through darkness to
    unveil the sunshine.

The measured knot that binds me down
is embroidered with gold and glittered with bows.

The emperor's crown maps the road.

His throne beholds the vaulted treasure.

    The key is before me.
    The lock is behind me
The door is above me... while the answer
    I seek is inside me.

I really like the phrasing here. Nice poem. I really like the way you seemed lost in this piece and find whatever it is you are looking for in the end.

You are right - that is exactly what was happening - until I realized the answer was inside me. I'm glad that is what is being reflected.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
