Poem Commentary

This poem is for my best friend, who will never be forgotten

Losing it

I’m losing it,

I can feel it.

You’re in heaven now,

I still reach out to hold your hand,

It’s not there,

It’s a constant reminder

You’re never coming back.

I’d love to be in your embrace just once more,

Feel the way I did when you were here.

My superhero you were, my superhero still,

I wake up and hope that maybe I was dreaming.

I sometimes search for you,

I have never been able to find you yet.

I almost feel like you never existed,

But then the memories come flooding back,

I smile once more and quickly push them away.

So I don’t push myself over the edge of insanity.

The thought of you is a constant,

It reminds me one day I’ll see you again,

But as for now in this moment,

Being without you,

Is making me crazy.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
