Lost

Who is this person staring back at me?

I think I’ve lost myself

With each sweet word

Twisting my head

With beautiful lies

With every “I’m sorry”

And promises it won’t happen again

With each insult

Soaked into my skin

With every word unspoken

Silence gripping my throat

Willing me not to speak of my emotions

Do you know who I am?

My hands feel unfamiliar to my flesh

Twinkling eyes have been replaced

With dark pools of water

Ready to spill its banks

Sadness hides behind my laughter

Peeking through forced smiles

My face lacks its usual glow

Body numb

I am no longer myself

Wow, you really went there on this one didn't you? This was great I was ALL-IN from the very beginning! Keep it up!

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
