Love Is My Shepherd, I Shall Not Want

Love Is My Shepherd, I Shall Not Want

It is one of the inequities of life,

That some are born in strife,

Some lack a father,

While others lack a mother,

Forty-eight years of living,

Has taught me to cherish giving,

As a way to overcome lack,

Giving watches my back,

Some dirt poor,

Others filthy rich,

Whatever you lack in life,

Makes you strong through strife,

You might not think you needed the lesson,

But Existence said, “Wait my son!”,

A test to make you stronger,

A parent you will have no longer

Son, are you man enough?

Daughter, can you hang tough?

Through your lack, overcome and shine,

Show you are children of mine,

Never focus on your need,

Else, lack will eat you like greed,

And even in the midst of abundance,

You’ll cast a glance askance

See… water, water, everywhere,

Not a drop to drink,

People, people, everywhere,

Standing apart and living in fear,

Give of yourself what you may,

To shine, ’tis the only way,

Love is our Shepherd we shall not want,

At our heels, lack will not haunt,

For in love for people untold,

Never can lack a soul.

The read is testimony that you have great wisdom and your words are great and definitely this poet qualifies as a great role-model or blueprint for getting thru the strife in life and turning it to good beginnings. Surely, I find this read balm for my soul.

Yes, that's what I would have said if I'd have thought of it first. giggles :)

Hahahaha! That is a sweet comment! Thanks.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
