    Love

    Many people often presume,
that love is but an emotion,
    it dances along cupid's tune,
    a dust of inspiration.

And yet, once love fades away,
like all things of beauty withers,
those same people would then say,
love is a fruit that is bitter.

Perhaps it is safer to deduce,
that love is more than emotion,
for there is one more thing it use,
    the power of decision.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
