LOVERS EVE

Poem Commentary

I knew a really cheap guy who invented a holiday called Lover's Eve. He said this eliminated the crass commercialism of Valentines day. His dates said he was cheap. A few minutes ago a friend reminded me of this made up Holiday and I wrote this.

LOVERS EVE

LOVER'S EVE

No need to wine you or to dine you

That’s for foolish men

We’ll get busy romancin and prancin

And start right up again

We’re free To Love

On the Eve Of Love

Won’t buy you flowers or candy.

Not while love’s so handy.

Give in, you know I’m fine

And open up YOUR wine.

We’re free to love

On the Eve Of Love

So you don’t like my holiday

You’ve found something more

Now you get mercy and grace

And you’re showin me the door

This  Jesus shows you love

Because He's total love

Sister I don’t understand you

How can you pass this up?

He don't give no flowers or candy

or invite you out to sup.

Yet you say you still feel loved

Because his game is love.

Very creative .... I love the image you captured! This picture is so befitting with your prose. From everything of yours that I have read - It sounds like you know quite a lot of interesting people! I would also like to add, you also fall into this category .... One who appears to be a very interesting individual!

This is a really fun poem! But also portrays the possibility of loving someone who shows love differently than others.

Thank you. Women and men react so differently to Lover's Eve. I am glad you like the poem. I found the idea horrible men just laugh it off

I liked the flow of this poem, the difference between God's love and man's love spelled out clearly. Very well written.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
