Masquerade

Poem Commentary

What is a man to do when all he has left is his integrity?

Masquerade

Masquerade

What you see isn’t real

Just a façade hiding all that I feel

Masquerading is what I do

To conceal the hurt when I think of you

The twinkles that are in my eyes

Is nothing more than tears I cry

And this smile I wear is just a frown

Look a bit closer, it’s just upside down

Now since you left me I just pretend

That our love hasn’t come to its end

And now I feel my life is sabotaged

That’s way I wear so much camouflage

Girl though our love is in conclusion

Please don’t be fooled by my illusions

Cause I really love you and I really care

But I shield my pride with this smile I wear.

Outside of me girl I masquerade

Inside of me I’m feeling so afraid

Outside of me girl I just charade

Inside I weep as hope does fade
