    Matrimony

    Honey-mooning is so much fun
It's lots of laughs for everyone
All goes well through the night
'Till morning breaks and there is light

You open your eyes and turn to your side
Then over her shoulder your fingers glide
She's slowly aroused out of her sleep
And now you realize you've married a creep!

She whispers to you, "Coffee dear?"
With breath you soon learn to fear
You take another look, IT MUST BE KING KONG!
And wonder to yourself, "could I've been THAT WRONG!?

Oh well, you're entitled to one mistake
And remember those vows you longed to make?
And now it's 20 years to LIFE
.....You LUCKY GUY you GOT A WIFE!!

NOTE:  Kind of a Mad Magazine version, if you're familiar - sung to the   tune of "Oh Christmas Tree."  Not great poetry...written when I was 15. :)

Funny thing, I wrote this when I was 15 as an engagement gift for a favorite high school teacher who was getting married. He appreciated the humor. Looking back, I wonder how I knew so much about relationships back then. LOL. Hope he's still married...and STILL appreciating the humor! :) Glad you got the joke! (or WAS it?) :)

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
