    MERCY

She was born when the first wave of Revivals hit and camps were all over town,

Ninety hours later the lady who gave birth to her was in the ground, six feet down.

Before her last breath, she had heard the preacher talk on a sermon about Mercy,

She named her daughter that because she thought it was both catchy and classy.

Mercy’s life began when a middle-aged couple strolled in to the adoption center,

The wife’s face looked too gentle but her husband had quite a bit of a stagger.

The next fifteen years was just the same till something happened one fateful night,

Daddy touched Mercy differently and she tried to resist him with all her might,

For another two hundred and one nights, this same ugly scene was repeated,

But one evening courage arose within her as her strength was almost deflated,

Something deep inside her soul screamed aloud, “Run away, Mercy……..Run!!!!!”

That she did and for the next five days she headed north towards the warming Sun.

A guy named Max rescued her in time for she had only eighteen more breaths to live,

Introduced her to the City of Sin and money making, but sex was what she had to give.

Seven years went by; Mercy learnt that Max had been killed from the news on the telly,

A month before, he disappeared with all her money but left something big in her belly.

Penniless and homeless, the trashcans of the rich was where she got the food she eats,

She found places to lay down herself to sleep and jokingly called them Mercy Streets.

Delivered of a boy in front of Bo’s diner, that very day the doctor who helped ate there,

But Dr. Bailey, a widower and childless, decided right there to make the baby his heir.

She agreed to an adoption, she didn’t want to be reminded about anything from her past,

Named the child Bo, for him she was paid a sum, but of course, the money didn’t last.

From time to time, very few worthless men came by for pleasure and her body they used,

For twenty six years and for just a few dollars, she allowed herself to be abused.

One afternoon, Mercy heard a testimony about how an angel saved a girl named Nancy,

From then on she wanted the experience Nancy had, for it really did tickle her fancy.

Daydreamed for two years but on this wintry night, she was about to give up hope,

Under the moonlight appeared a young man, looking more saintly than the Pope.

“My angel has finally come” she thought aloud, feeling very happy and so smiley,

And right she was, for this young man who stood before her was called Mr. Bo Bailey.

Bo had learnt about his mom from Dr. Bailey, who died and left Bo so much wealth,

He transformed Mercy’s life almost completely, the exception, her deteriorating health.

She fought a good fight against cancer until she saw her grandson after Bo’s wedding,

Mercy……..oh, dear Mercy!! With everything you went through, what an ending.
