Midnight Girl

Midnight Girl

Come and I'll tell you the stories
of words left unspoken,
and I'll whisper the pictures
of your heart's desires.
Even if to say that
the truth can't be broken,
for it is set free when
the lies grow tired.
These memories are recalled
as you begin to fall
in to a deep sleep,
but, they can't help but creep
inside of your head,
as you lie in your bed.
Your head's in a whirl,
in a mysterious trance,
for this is the Midnight Girl's
hallucinating dance.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
