MOTH EATEN MEMORIES

skeletons in the attic
you hear the floor creaking
though you can’t see them
you know it’s you they’re seeking
you keep on burying
their bones in the yard
but they seem to find you
to hide from them hard
their shadows follow you
like dreams of the past
their ghostly images
like photos last
when you close your eyes
in the air is a scent
like dusty old books
with brittle spines bent
moth eaten memories
tattered and worn
like empty dark windows
nibbled curtains forlorn
door hinges creaking
like an old mans knees
running from sorrows
your past a disease
you sweep the dust
hidden under the rug
then it hovers around you
like a spirit so smug
you chase away the ghosts
closing the closet door
your skeletons finally rest
to haunt you no more

It reminds me of going through my mothers garage rafters. A remeniscent feeling that is probably universal. Good job.

I love the haunting feel this brings. The metaphors are effective. A very entertaining and almost detective oriented piece. Ginga

another well written fact of life.. something we all must deal with at different times. There are some I still cannot chase away.. I guess thats because.. The fragrance always remains in the hand that gives the rose

This poem completely rocks ^_^ I love the imagery. The only place where it tripped me up was where you used "closing" instead of "close" in the third to last line. I think close might fit better there and aid the beat of the poem, but of course it's up to you.

I love the ghostly images that haunt this poem. You captured my attention and held it throughout. Lock those skeletons away before thet get out. Great job TS

To have great poets there must be great audiences too.
