    Mountaintop

I stand here on this mountaintop
    With no one around
No noise to distract my mind
    Not a storm in sight
No rain that will wash me away
    I stand in silence
    In peace
my soul breaks down the demons
letting silence to consume my heart
    I stand on this mountaintop
    Watching the distant valleys
How they are not awaken by the noise of this world
How nature allows them to be at peace
I watch the small towns below
I watch the noise of their lives
    Control their minds and emotions
I stand here on the top of this mountain
Free of all the noise that tears us apart
Free of all the words that brings us down
Free from the life I live
    I’m at peace
    I am in silence
No one here except the Lord
I watch the mountains around me
    How beautiful they are
How they remind me of the one I love
Her soul is so pure and enchanting
Her love brings peace to this world
    They remind me
That the world is a mystery
They remind me that our lives are never ending
    I turn my head
I watch a hawk fly by me
It does not look at me
Like it had no use for me.
    The hawk is like society.
Showing how we tend to neglect
The ones we need the most
I stand here listening to the silence
Allowing it to free my soul
This mountain is a world like no other
I stand here thanking him for this peace
Today I am free of our noise
For tomorrow, our sound will surround me.

    well written

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
