    Poem Commentary

Been busy exploring my neck of the woods again-this is a sequel to Secret Sanctuary-Springsize first gave me the idea, but the moment was so right to write about-I hope you enjoy!

    My First Glimpse

    I awoke this morning
    to sun  streaming through
    the thin curtain blowing
    a sweet spring breeze.

    Summer is coming soon.
    Windows can open
    throughout the whole night
    and you don't freeze.

    Tom and I felt anxious
    knowing what's ahead
    on this Sunday morning
    after breakfast

    Trek back into that place
    where treasure was found
    Excited to see them
    see them at last

    We packed up essentials
    water bottles filled,
    fieldguides for reference,
    and good bug spray

    Dressing appropriately
    best 'bush-wacking' gear
We were off in our Scion
    and on our way

    Drove by the osprey nest
    now ever guarded
    chicks will hatch soon
    at least they should

Tom parked at the road's end
    We walked mindfully
    Quietly we ventured
    into the wood

    Never easy-going
    But worth the trouble
    muddy obstacle course
    tripping feet

    While we neared many nests
    We heard parents squawk
    and the chicks yapped loudly
    It was sooo neat!!

    I stood beneath a tree
    saw them above me
    such exhiliration....I will never forget

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
