Poem Commentary

This isn't a perfect poem, with perfect cadence.  But it is just a glimpse into the love I have for mother who left this earth 7 years ago.

My Mama

She was beautiful and sweet,
Not many like her kind
She was funny and unique
With a laugh you rarely find

She showered me with love
With hugs and kisses then
I thought she'd always be there
She was my dearest friend

She didn't want to bother
A soul with her own pain
She kept those things inside her
And prayed for others' gain

I did not know how precious
A soul she really had
Until she wasn't there to call
When things in life were bad

What I would give to hear her
Just laugh or talk or sing
But she lives on right through me
Sweet Ruby... my everything

I will always love you and never forget you, Mama.

Your mother was a loving and kind person that always placed others above herself. I miss her and her late night phone calls.

A beautiful tribute. I know your pain as I lost my mother not long ago. She made June Cleaver look like a child abuser.

So sorry for your loss. I wish I could say it gets easier. The pain does seem to fade to allow more room for the beautiful memories. Keep your Mom alive every day - in things you say, how you react to others and, because you're a writer, write about her. It's cathartic.

This is such a lovely tribute to your mother. It is warm, and inspiring, few qualities most seem to show for their aging parents. But you poerd your heart into this poem. Thank you, Mary A. Eaton

Mary, it is such a joy getting to know you. Your comments and well wishes are unexpected but appreciated more than you know.

beautiful dedication for your mother Writer1. I refer to mine as my queen without a crown. she's going in for heart surgery this Tuesday and your poem touched me deeply.

You said it better than I could, "My Queen Without a Crown." I will pray for your "Queen's" recovery!

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
