    My Pond

Stagnating here, in a still pond
    Of self loathing, and regret
Surrounded by swimming tadpoles and mosquito larvae
    I wallow in my misery
No one to blame but myself
    For all the wrong turns
    From which I cannot return
Aged, unhealthy, and unwilling to go on.
The tadpoles will grow legs and hop away,
Likewise the larvae will sprout wings
    And begin their parasitic existence
And I will stay, and stay.

Momma, you have a new lease on life. You don't have to stay in your metaphorical stagnant pond also known as life.

I like the use of metaphores in this poem, how "the tadpoles will grow legs" and "the larvae will sprout wings" however you will stand in your pond of misery. The larvae and the tadpoles show life will go on, but the still pond shows you will choose to stay stagnant. A wonderful work of art.

Thank you for the comment and reading...glad to say I moved out of the pond too. LOL Blessings! Marlene

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
