    My Reflection

A Child crying into the mirror

Holding her hand to its reflection

    Daddy I want my daddy

To almost a woman putting on makeup

    With butterflies in her stomach

Can’t hardly wait to see a boy

    Then a numb young women

Getting ready for loves greatest illusions

    Unwittingly

Then a soon to be mother

    Happy ,glowing

My baby, my son, a chance to start again

    to right wrongs

    Years pass

    Not knowing who this was

    A facade

    A shell almost

    I can’t look

    As tears run down

I reach my fists to the mirror

    Change, Change, I cry

    You are not me

This is not what I’m supposed to be

    The mirror shatters into pieces

    As it falls it cuts

    Some leaving scars

I fall to the floor defeated

Sobbing, then I see my reflection

In the broken pieces on the floor

My reflection stayed in the pieces

    I see the familiar pieces

The child, The numb young woman,

    The mother,

    Then is see

    Unfamiliar pieces that

    Are all apart of me

Then I notice in my hand

A sharp piece in my grip

    Reflecting nothing

    I somehow knew this

    Was the most important piece

It was change, if I can find

    The courage to start

And its here in these pieces

Of my mind, soul, and heart

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
