My Second Cup

    • Very excited and very grateful. My son Michael will be coming back to American soil in about 12 days I want to thank all of you for your prayers and well wishes and strength.

    My Second Cup

And the house is once again quiet...
Save for the low whirring of the ceiling fan
Lazily running laps over my head.
All have clamored out the door
    To destinations of their own
Taking with them their sense of urgency
And leaving me with breakfast dishes
    And my second cup.

It will be a fine day.
The sun has already staked her claim
    In the sky.
The only hint of rain that remains
Is a small puddle at the curb.
    The Mimosa stands guard.
    Looming o'er the front door,
    Warning visitors to take care,
    Do not disturb my solitude.
    It is so short lived
    And I treasure it.

The clock ticks off the minutes.
Soon it will be my turn to exit
    And begin my day.
    But not just yet....

    There
    is
    my
    second
    cup....

I know this feeling. It's right after I pack my kids lunches and get them on the school bus. The house is quiet and I have an hour till I have to leave for work. Time for that second cup of coffee. Good write, TS

i love all the noise and clamor of our extended family but those few precious minutes of quiet. I can hear my own thoughts...thanks for the comments, mlea

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.

    Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) American poet.
