Poem Commentary

In search of peace of mind, love, rest and happiness.

My Soul Seeks Heaven

I know the thing I could have done

If given the chance and power

But only God knows how much I try

And never seem to make it

No matter how much effort I apply

My heart grieves at the things done

Yet I can stop none

I have to silently watch

The crimes committed by men

And wish somebody would intervene

My soul seeks heaven

But never seem to get near

I’m still bound by sin

No matter how I pray day and night

Nothing done by me seems to be right

I’m never getting anywhere, I’m losing the fight

Always seeking the truth

But never coming to it

Working tirelessly everyday

But never making it

Climbing day by day

But never reaching the top

Always sliding back to the foot of the slope

I leave it to the Lord Almighty

To decide on my destiny

A mystery surrounds my being

Perhaps hell awaits me to burn all my sins

Or heaven, to give rest to my troubled soul

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
