    Poem Commentary

    Me and my wife of 13 years recently separated. If you've read any of my poems about relationships, good and bad, she has been my inspiration. This poem is not a true story but was inspired by one. I'm sure many of you can relate.

    NEVER YESTERDAY
    if i had a dollar
    for every mistake i've made
    i'd give it all to old man time
    to make it yesterday
    back before she had enough
    before she went away
    why is there always tomorrow
    but never yesterday

    listen is that her
    i hear calling my name
    listen i hear it again
    tell me i'm not insane
    i've had too many sleepless nights
    and too many lonely days
    why is there always tomorrow
    but never yesterday

    i still have the letter
    she left me on that day
    it just read i'm sorry dear
    i just can't stand the pain
    all she wanted was my love
    and all i did was take
    why is there always tomorrow
    but never yesterday

    A poetic confession of sorts relative to ones actions that resulted in a lost relationship. Nicely done.
