New Beginnings

Poem Commentary

All of us, at some time, wish that we had hind-sight, and had another chance at a New Beginning. Contemplation at the things in between...the good and bad, the right and wrong...let's us consider who, what, where, and when...the people who meant the most to us, did their best, which made life-long impressions. Chiefly that was our childhood years, when we saw our parents as could do no wrong kings and queens of whatever village and castle we lived in with them. Now, we have new beginnings, each day we wake...enjoy your new beginnings...tomorrow.

New Beginnings

In Memory of Classmates - Class of '83

Wende Ann Davidson and Kimberly Haight

In the morning, I breathe,
at night, down I lay my head,
wave good-bye to you,
  rather be hugging you, instead.

Yes, tears they rolled,
  my aching heart burned,
to see you again, never,
  how my soul yearned.

Away, I’ve gone,
  but, only to school,
new friends I’ve made,
  learned ‘bout, a golden rule.

A corsage, a boutonnière,
  you placed, just right,
a tear wetted your cheek,
  as you bid me good-night.

These are new beginnings,
  places I had to go,
would I return,
  you did not know –
you sent me off,
  with your heart in tow,
well wishes and kisses,
  hopes, for me to sow.

Off, into the world,
  away I went again,
news media, papers, radio,
kept up, of where, of when.

She stole my heart,
  gave me wings to fly,
again, your heart wept,
  new love, can’t deny.

Kids we’ve plenty,
  their toys are much,
daily we struggle,
  just to keep in touch.

My turn to watch,
  help to heal a wound,
fragile feelings, broken hearts,
  hope will help heal soon.

These are new beginnings,
times you had to let go,
would I return,
  you sure hoped so –
you sent me off,
  your heart did not know,
well wishes and kisses,
  there’s a whistle blow.

Morning came, cloudy, grey,
  a day I couldn’t face,
obits had all good so say,
  but, you’d lost the race.

Many years past,
  now I’m old, I’m grey,
so many have gone on,
me, I’m left here to say –

These are new beginnings,
  some great, some small,
would I return,
share with you, all and all –
you sent me off,
your heart, so proud, so tall,
well wishes and kisses,
  laughter echoes, in the hall.

My day shall come,
  for that day I’ll wait,
for Jesus and the Spirit,
  can’t help, but anticipate.

Family, friends, more too,
  sure to be plenty there,
eternity with them,
no tears or even a care.

These are new beginnings….
