    Poem Commentary

    This is intended to be a hymn hence the numbers on the back for musical purposes. Maundy Thursday and Good Friday in Orthodoxy were on 4/29/2021 and 4/30/2021. I wrote this during a 30 minute vigil at church.

    New Maundy (song)
    Maundy Thursday/Good Friday
    Knowing His hour near (6)
    Lord calls upon those dear (6)
    One shall betray Him thrice (6)
    And He ransoms that price (6)
    To make your pathway clear (6)

    He washes thy feet of dirt (7)
    He prepares to take on hurt (7)
    Showing acts of service true (7)
    He asks the same of you (7)
    Love each other never curt (7)
    •
    "Now this is my body by bread" (8)
    "My blood made in chalice wine red" (8)
    "Take and eat ye this sacrament" (8)
    Eucharistic God, man's knee bent (8)
    Earthly souls now divinely fed (8)
    •
    Six hour it shall be done (6)
    Lamb of God falsely hung (6)
    For He brings life once more (6)
    Opening heaven's door (6)
    Thus over death He's won (6)
    •
    Communion taken in woe (7)
    For it's how the Church dost grow (7)
    Remember His sacrifice (7)
    To offer eternal life (7)
    What great love dost He show (7)
    •
    Loving His disciples by act (8)
    Setting up an ages long pact (8)
    Fulfilling prophecies of old (8)
    Betrayed by brethren this foretold (8)
    The prophets tales are now all fac

    If you didn't already make improved changes then it must of been my state of mind during first read. This is good. Is this intended for Western Rite Orthodox Divine Service?

    Yes it is. Western rite Gregorian service. Our current Maundy hymn is so messy and we never seem to get it right after 6 years at this church so I wanted to make a new one.

    Sorry to say I didn't care for this poem as I had hoped. In the 3rd there mixed metaphors; never any good. Then the ending left me flat instead of joyful or repentant.

    This is written as a hymn which lines exactly frustrated you? I'm hoping to put it to music but if the lyrics aren't right I'd like to fix that first
