Nightshades

Poem Commentary

This is a song I wrote a while back after creating a picture that I made called "Electric Nightshade."  That is what you see posted up as a picture for this poem, as a matter of fact.

Nightshades

Teardrops on the surface
Don't know which way to go
See a single nightshade blooming
Despite the winter snows

Come with me, protected
Secretly unaware
The streams of yore are calling
And you thirst for more

Why do these things have to happen
Why can't we wait until
The night is done, please don't be long
Just know I love you still

So sleepy yet so dreamy
The effort all in vain
I know you want me happy
But still I feel the pain

Why can't I stop this crying
it will be over soon
I know what you are thinking
But I never judged you

Why can I not feel my hands
Why can't I feel my feet
I think I'm losing grip now
I'm in such a defeat

I'm feeling so numb now
I am feeling so cold
The warmth will return to me
That fairytale is old

I don't seem to care anymore
What I have to do
I can't back down, I'll lose my ground
I just want to be with you

Why do I feel rejected
What do I yearn to feel
I'm not myself anymore
But I love you still

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
