    Ode To The Ape-Man

I have appear in many media forms

    Legendary heroic tales by swarms.

As seen in films, radio, television,

    comic strips & books; allusions.

Offspring of a patrician British Lord and Lady.

Statue’s handsome features driving young girls crazy.

Tanned Caucasian with grey eyes and black hair.

Muscles ripple, floating as buteoes in air.

Orphaned by Mangani species; Kerchak's tribe.

Survival born by adoption of mother Kala jibed.

Irony is Kerchak becomes his adored father.

    Cymophanous heart born relationship unbothered.

Exotic child feral, Africa’s rain-forest breeding.

His threaten cry’s one would wisely be heeding.

When lions stalk the little lambs of his world,

Villainous intensions, he in fiery hurled.

The life-threaten perils of the jungle taught

more than assigned civilized instruction brought.

Taught strength, speed, agility, reflexes, balance,

flexibility, reaction time, and sailfish ambience.

In safari adventures wrestled full grown bull apes

and gorillas; battered but victorious in the scrapes.

    Overcame charging rhinos, constricting anacondas.

Commanding their advances as though' a windlass.

Faced teeth and jaws of crocodiles and stalking big cats.

Even sharks and dinosaurs destroyed as unwanted rats.

    Iron bars couldn't contain and hold Burroughs hero;

for with bare hands he bent making their efforts zero.

Climbing, clinging, and leaping as apes and baboons.

through the rain-forest density of Ndogo Loogon,

With his animal friends of jungle, enemies swoon.

Restoring calmness under the African moon.

When brought to Civilization, it he quickly mastered.

    Readily absorbed scholarly condensation, plastered.

Warden of communication, learned tongues of humans child .

Extensive of man he spoke the language of the wild.

Suppressor of the hypocrisy of civilized laws and kowtow.

Laws of nature have captured marrow of this beings' dough.

Valiant we will be, if values we include learned of he.

Guardian of brotherly love and carrier of dreams free.

Childs’ hero live on, turn congealed heart into warriors bone.

Address life as gracious kings ruled kingdoms upon their thrown.

Gentle for the weaker butterflies dancing on life’s euphony.

Domineered oppressing forces put back in bountiful harmony.

This is a very well written poem, Gentle T! Brought memories of George of the Jungle for me! Your style in this poem is very impressive to me!

What I know of Tarzan is from the Johnny Weismueller tv show. I do know some of the facts you've written about, but have not read the book. This does bring back the childhood memories of swinging on an old rope and letting loose that Tarzan yell. Thanks for the smile you've created. Great poem, TS

A beautifully written tribute to Tarzan of the apes. It just goes to prove that wonderful poems can be writen about almost forgotten subjects/ Ten

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.
