    Ode To the Vanishing Hills

As machinery pushed the earth aside
The tall trees toppled there and died.
In indignant heaps still they lie,
    Roots upturned and branches awry
The hills were shaved to lesser heights-
    Destruction to such lovely sights
Even the dead were disturbed at rest,
Only the ghosts of them are left.
Little murky ponds with no life to find
Dot the barren land they left behind.
And gone are the turtles, frogs and crickets.
No chipmunks and rabbits run in the thickets.
It was decades ago, but the evidence stayed
Of the monsters who chewed the hills away.

What a crazy world we live in. You did an impressive job on this. Best on the subject I've ever read.

Yes, a sad but true story, they call it progress. Nicely written, heartfelt I'm sure ... would make anybody miss the life taken away and beauty destroyed.

I have moved three times to get out of the city just to have it catch up to me. Your poem is too true.

You truly are a great poet. Your poetry rhymes in every shape and form. 'Truly a masterpiece. poetmaker

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

    Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
