    Poem Commentary

This is based on a photo from the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site in South West England.

    of endless sleep

    of dragon lore

    at Merlin's grace

    anon and evermore

    in the hearts of men

    chivalry lay dieing

    by lovers requite

    and San graal loss

    by fallen grace

    in prisoned stone

    by sorcerer charm

    he awaits the day

    of graal's return

I enjoy your whimsical light poetic way to pen a thought, and you do the opening, and closure well, repeatedly, in so few words you tie it together. I did have to look up the word graal, and found holy grail, and find a better understanding. I think anon is an ancient Egyptian phrase meaning servant of many Gods, while aton was interpreted as servant of one God. If I use these words in your poem, I can see the world where men of olden, even now, carry many Gods or desires in their hearts, wanting things that are not Godly, but temporarily worldly delicious, maybe like chocolate cupcakes or a brandy after, both seeming as specialties of joy, both being deadly sin against a healthy body. So it works with all choices of mankind, when we choose those activities also, that are less than Godly, such as bullying another or cheating another... et al moral choices. The requited lovers indulging for an afternoon may seem as heaven pleasure at the gate, but turns out to be a nightmare dressed in chains that follows with self pain... it comes, sometimes not for a long time, but I think each mistake ALL of us makes, will be there for us to examine.

I chose anon, because it is anarchic word, referring to another time, I search a thesaurus, so that I can use a term more fitting to the period that I'm writing about, and try to avoid using the same words or words repeatedly, I struggled greatly with thou loveth thine, in staying in the diction of that period.

Awesome , and the waves of the ocens keeps his peace, ty WS

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
