    Ogre

    Burly and gnarled
    Solitary Ogre
    holding fast
    the earth below
    Fierce wind growling
    lone wolf howling
    to argue the plight of
    driven snow

    Tempest hewes
    rippling limbs
    Seasons turn
    then begin
    Leaves do bud
    and fall again
    Can you hear
    the crying?

    Thirsting roots
    that beckon rain
    A tree alone
    the Plateau Plain

This is a lovely poem of death, and rejuvenation. Well done...as always.

I was thinking of retreat or hibernation. Thanks for your comments of encouragement.

This is indeed masterful. The clinching lines at the end of each verse and the finale; perfection. Wonderful!

Why does the word reincarnation fill my senses; why do I hear the rustle of dry leaves break up under my feet and yet see the promise of life renewed again. Gosh those few stanzas have filled my senses and I go back to read again and again and wishing I could reach out and hug the tree?

I wrote this in the hills of temecula, ca and imagined a tree passing through the four seasons, alone. But no transition of a person in reincarnation. Maybe in another life, it had been a cedar!

Thanks Ken. It's good to have the recognition from a fellow penner of verse

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.

    Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) American poet.
