oh, but i did

oh, but i did

i awoke to snow falling like tiny tufts
of cotton, had somewhere i should be but
wasn't. left, came home. about to make
my bed i decided to lie in it instead,
afterall why not? words echoed in my head,
you made your bed now lie in it...
so, i crawled in the ever so comforting fetal
position and slept the day away, dreaming
of places a thousand miles away, smiling
in my mind at all the possiblity my life
still holds, at all the wonder this world posseses

DS, I had two different perspectives when reading this poem. First, it seemed like a poem about procrastination and/or fear - a day of unproductivity when you know you should be more responsible and doing more, but you're just not up to it, so you decide to put it off another day. The second perspective seemed to be that this was one of hope and promise, where you snuggle up in bed and dream about the great days ahead. Of course, I like the second interpretation, because it's the positive one. I enjoyed reading this - the style and the rhythm flowed so well. Good job.

thanks...fyi, it's the ultimately the second one, it starts off as one day but shifts into the other--sort of like you live be the 'shoulds' of life, but then give into the spirit instead

I thought it was very nice. It reminds me of a category of poems a friend of mine would call New Yorker Magazine poetry. still I think its nice

You, the dreamer, this is like dessert served with more dessert.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
