Old Friend

Old Friend

what was so wrong that you crossed that line
I know that you knew better
no matter how it hurt inside
we can't be that unfettered

selfishly you took your life
escaping from your shame
the ultimate sharing
of your eternal blame

the loss of you, the way you left
hard enough a grief to share
but to ensure you didn't go alone
is too much pain to bear

I never knew until today
though several years it's been
that you killed your children too
an unforgivable sin

So when you stand before your God
if He offers to let you in
you'd better thank your lucky stars
that I'm not Him.

I like this... Look past the futility of not being able to tell them to their face in the afterlife, and just act like they're gagged and tied to a post so they have to listen to and swallow every last word... Clever ending too... A great write...

I like how you can register such emotion. I can feel it like Iam the one talking to this old friend. Very heart felt.

Painful and full of pain full of emotion too. And the rage I am quite agreeable to as well

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
