One Tear

One Tear

A single tear slid down her face, she never ceased to stare in space. Yes she could brush it away, but 100 others will only take its place. She’s felt this pain many times before. Doesn’t know if she can take much more. She looks around and all she sees; broken dreams and sad memories. There has to be a better way to get by day by day. Their future once looked so bright, now she just prays to get through the night..

The moonlight glows through the window shades, distant shadows drift by of the plans they made. Memories bitter sweet, as tear drops now fall near her feet. If only she could turn time back. It’ be to a time when everyone laughed. How did everything change so fast? Happiness - all ending up in the past?

In the distance a rooster crows and it is then that she knows. This can’t be fixed; it is beyond repair, so there is no reason to tarry there. Slowly she rises to her feet, her heart pounding, and skipping beats. Outside, outside where the street lamps glow. That is where she must go. Quickly now no looking back, don’t give him time to know where you’re at. Faster, faster still she goes another mile on an endless road. Running from disaster heading who knows where. The sun rises and the sun sets. She isn’t far enough away yet! Another day and another night, she begins to think it will be all right.

She finally comes to a friendly town hopes here that she can settle down. But, the dreams still haunt her every night. Pain and anger and endless fights, gunshots, blue lights will it ever end? Can she find peace again? Again a tear slides down her face, then a shadow of a smile takes its place for she has an answer – Yes, by God’s Grace.

This was a good poem The images you conveyed were very real and gripping. The ending you left in kind of a haze but the work all and all was well done. Robert

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
