Oregon Coast
Walking the beach down in OregonI saw a pile of rocks.
My heart skipped a beat
As I thought of you collecting some
(For your sister and mum)
"To make sure they didn't think
I forgot them,"
Or something like that...
So I ran over and looked through them,
Deciding which color I liked best.
(Grey, deep blue, light blue, white, light pink?)
Getting all excited,
To see if you would get
The reference,
And then I remembered,
I won't see you again;
There would be no time to give it to you.
So I scrambled up the dunes,
After grabbing one.
At the top I was
Furious with myself and
Out of breath.
I threw that stone (and everything it represented)
As far away from me as I could,
Into the sunset (yet another),
Into the ocean
To sink
and sink,
and sink,
And never be found.
I realised,
After sitting a while taking many deep breaths, that
I can't escape the thought of you,
(The hookah lounge across the street from my hotel, the five SIERRA GMC trucks on the way, the empty spot beside me, my dreams, and now these rocks...)
So I might as well have a pretty memento
For myself.
I jumped down the sand,
Back to the beach with the pile of
Keepsakes.
And found two matching ones.
(Just in case...)
