Parade of Shame

I confided in someone
and called him a friend
but he used each secret
a means to and end

He was after something
I never bargained for
using my feelings
as some kind of lure

I feel tricked; preyed upon
but that might not be fair
of the blame I place
I own my fair share

Yet I offered friendship
my heart on my sleeve
not trying to bully
not set to deceive

and it's cost me friendship
more than his now, I'm afraid
as all my wrong doings
he's put out on parade

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
