To Taste A Tear

To Taste A Tear

Have you ever tasted a tear? There is a flavor there to savor.
It is a mixture of pain, pleasure, and reality, harsh truth and broken promises.
A tear in and of itself is a small miracle, I imagine God wanted to provide us with a way to release...
All of the pent up energies of tramped down emotions and pushed aside fears
Thoughts that we promise ourselves we will get back to, some other time when it is more convenient to hurt
We often use tears to express the extremity of our emotional state like "I cried until I couldn 't cry anymore....
Have you ever cried until the wells ran dry? I mean really cried until tears no longer provide that cleansing affect
And all you can do is make that awful sound that a mortally wounded animal makes when it realizes the end is near
At the end of crying a headache exists, waiting to pounce on any fool soooo pathetic to have surpassed the usefulness of tears
At the end of crying your stomach ties up into a knot so complex that pretzels are envious
At the end of tears pain is so profound that you begin to become immune to it
You find comfort in it because as long as you are feeling this pain you aren't thinking
Thinking those thoughts that caused those tears and erected such arrrghh.... pain in the first place
But even pain doesn't last forever and eventually we all find our smile again
Floating on the Tear river.
We swim over to it, doggie-paddle, shake the moisture off and try to put it on again
But we realize it no longer fits, it just doesn't feel comfortable hanging there on our faces like that
People immediately notice that something is amiss and ask us "What's wrong with you?" or "You look like you lost your best friend"
You try the smile that is in need of an alignment again, the "slightly off" discounted Marshalls smile
The more you use it the better it fits until all of a sudden it starts to work automatically
Until you see a familiar face or a place, Smell a specific aroma taste a treat once shared and it all comes back
Hurtling you head on into reality, RE--AL--DAMN--ITY! You try to restrain it but resistance is futile
And you get that familiar, slighty salty, somewhat acidity, taste on your lips and realize once again..... its A TEAR.

Great poem and so precise. Tears of Joy and of pain gives us the means to share some of what consumes us into the open space, allowing us the energy to move forward.

It's so true what you said, some other time when it's convenient to hurt, I remember thinking the same thing so many times, the headaches and I have cried my wells dry. I think I have permenantly cried them dry, the reason I write about tears is because I am envious of those able to release that pent up pain. Well done, my friend.
