My life to this point has been fairly average. Nothing horribly dramatic, or emotionally crushing has befallen me as of yet; something that I am endlessly thankful for. I have however dealt with a lot of emotional situations; some so bad that made me think that maybe they were going to crush me. I’ve wept bitterly over losing friends, had my heart broken, and known the desperation of loneliness. But every time I’ve come out the other side.

In my 25 years I’ve come to discover many things about myself and other people. One is that the second worst feeling in the world is watching someone you care about make the same mistakes you did once upon a time, the worst feeling, is knowing that no matter how hard you try to help, or what advice you give; their still going to go out and do that thing that will break their hearts. Some things people have to learn for themselves, and it sucks when all you can do is standby and watch.

It’s times like these that inspire me to write, when there is no other way to express yourself, poetry opens a window. Whether or not the people your poems are meant for ever read them, your passion, your love, despair, or fury finally has the chance to come out. To be heard and recognized, even if it is only by you.
