Poem Commentary

THis poem is not aimed at our new President. It is aimed at both aisles of Congress that care only for their individual ideologies and care little for the common good of the people of this great country.

Politicians

Listen closely good citizens to the carefully crafted chatter

More lies than truth but what does it matter

A little fib here and a little fib there

The politicians need the votes so why should they care

The promises come easy one after another

A landslide of rhetoric intended to smother

“When I am elected” they say  “all will be well”

“So trust me with your future” they fervently yell

Once elected they turn from the smiling father figure

To a smirking know it all whose position we can’t even measure

They have their Cadillac healthcare plan and retirement assured

So your cries for justice will likely never be heard

Is it representation you seek from your elected official?

How dare you expect that they listen to the voice of the people?

Their position is clear and they will voice it out loud

“You elected me to vote my conscience and to do so I’m proud”

So be quiet little people don’t disturb their hard work

They are busy promoting their next unearned perk

They have no time for your opinion that interrupts their busy day

“You don’t understand politics” you will always hear them say

So what choice do we have but to wait for them to seek re-election

When once again they will throw promises in every direction

But remember the United States Constitution is clear as is the Bill of Rights

So send them packing good citizen and let’s take this great country to new heights.

Hampton a well written docment of poetry that certainly resonates with 'We The People' Love it! In particular I enjoy the way you don't display bias for any party or against another...you shed the light/darkness on all politicians and are not stuck in the Brand A Brand B style of political of thinking...you Rock! 10 +

Going back and checking my friends, wins. Congrats, friend. I see this is too a political rant, like mine, smile. This is the revolution that Jefferson make mention of in his speeches. This is one of the flaws of a republic; we elect Representatives/Senators and presents to represent the majority; they cannot represent all, only a majority so the minority feel cheated and complains but when election times comes; they reelect the same person more likely than not and then they are dissatisfied or the new person elected become their dislike. I have always been in favor of a single six year term; thereby they can do their thing and not worry about reelection; you have one chance and that's it and then you are out bring in the new.

Thank you for taking the time to sift back through the archives. It gave me great joy to see your poem win the weekly contest as more voices need to be raised to call attention to the plutocracy that has gripped our great country. It may seem at times that we are helpless in the battle but those that would serve themselves instead of the country as a whole need to realize that we are far from clueless.

you really painted it so well Hamp...as usual I always love your wit...I never expect that politicians in your country is also similar to ours...but...because our country is very poor...politicians can afford to buy their votes here...in exchange for money that cost only 3 meals...and also they will not hire you if they identify that you are an opposition...there is no dignity in our country during election....Great poem Hamp...^_^ v

Sorry I am late in replying. I very much appreciate your comments.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
